Welcome to Katong Gurdwara

Naam Japna

Kirt Karna

Vand Chhakna

about us.

Guru Nanak Sat Sang Sabha traces its roots back to the 1950s when families living in the Katong area used to gather at the homes of the Sangat to conduct Kirtan. As the congregation (Sangat) grew it became evident that a permanent place was required to meet the spiritual needs of the Sikhs living in that area. A bungalow was purchased at Wilkinson Road by Sardar Inder Singh Bajaj for this purpose in 1962. The adjoining bungalow was bought the following year and a permanent Gurdwara was erected in 1969. It was built in tradition of architecture of Gurdwaras found in India.

It is also reported to be the first Gurdwara outside of India to have a marble “Paalki” services in the form of morning and evening diwans are held daily and a more comprehensive programme takes place every Sunday. Important anniversaries in the Sikh calendar such as the birthday’s of the Sikh Gurus (Gurpurbs)and Vaisakhi are also celebrated. All services are performed strictly according to the Sikh traditions.
